It was over 40 years ago that LEGO created the 854 Go-Kart. It was part of my youth but have never owned one as a child. So I did some catching up and build the original Go-Kart from almost all new parts. Amazing that this is possible after over 40 years!
To honor the 112 part miracle from 1978 I have designed the 854 Tribute from parts currently available.

This comparison shows the 43 years of progress LEGO brick development in numbers. Double the amount of parts but almost the same weight.
It shows LEGO bricks have become smaller allowing more detail.
Unfortunately higher part count also means higher cost.

The updated steering geometrie results in a more responsive steering and much tighter turning radius which makes it even more fun to play with than the original. The video shows this well (click on the image to view the video).

In good BrickPolis tradition the building instructions are published on Rebrickable for free together with the parts list and sticker sheet. Don’t forget to donate if you like this build and free instruction.
