Progress on a LEGO® City

854 Go-Kart Tribute

It was over 40 years ago that LEGO created the 854 Go-Kart. It was part of my youth but have never owned one as a child. So I did some catching up and build the original Go-Kart from almost all new parts. Amazing that this is possible after over 40 years!

To honor the 112 part miracle from 1978 I have designed the 854 Tribute from parts currently available.

This comparison shows the 43 years of progress LEGO brick development in numbers. Double the amount of parts but almost the same weight.
It shows LEGO bricks have become smaller allowing more detail.
Unfortunately higher part count also means higher cost.

The updated steering geometrie results in a more responsive steering and much tighter turning radius which makes it even more fun to play with than the original. The video shows this well (click on the image to view the video).

In good BrickPolis tradition the building instructions are published on Rebrickable for free together with the parts list and sticker sheet. Don’t forget to donate if you like this build and free instruction.

Leicester Store BI published

Free building instructions, parts list and decal sheet are available for download on Rebrickable for the LEGO Store Leicester Square by BrickPolis.

LEGO Store with all featured elements.

This modular is modelled after the LEGO flagship store at Leicester Square London. The modular features elements that are present in the real store: tube train and telephone box photo moments, a two story Big Ben, a playtable and Pick & Build wall as wel as Brickley the dragon. Themed product shelves and a LEGO Logo history wall make the LEGO experience complete.

Please note a lof of effort has gone into designing the modular, making the building instructions and creating the decal with high resolution historical logos from scratch. Provided free of charge and not intended for commercial use. Please feel free to donate any amount you see fit: https://bit.ly/3dOc5Dg

Not included in the inventory list are Minifigs col075, col138, col177, col243, cty0578, gen098, tlm008, tls088, tls094, trn07 and trn115a. The Bricklink XML parts file on rebrickable has them as wel as original sticker sheets with LEGO logos in case you want to use original decals.

Welcoming Lester and queue as mostly seen before the store.
With Big Ben, Brickley the Dragon and Tube Train as in the real store.
Tube Train photo moment with Royal Guard, Shakespeare and Queen.
Register and themed product shelves.
The Judge, Constable and Detective are also present.
Phone Box photo moment and a Pick & Build wall.
A lot of work has gone into recreating high resolution historic logos for the Logo History Wall.

Leicester Store deleted from Ideas

LEGO Store Leicester Square London
LEGO Store Leicester Square London

With 60 days to go the LEGO Store Leicester Square was close to 5000 supporters. Thank you all that have supported the LEGO Store!

However, I have deleted the Store from Ideas before it expired. I have done so because I doubt very much if this would become a set in the future. On top of that, I find the current level of submissions that (almost) reach 10.000 supporters very disappointing. So disappointing that I don’t want my LEGO Store to be associated with them through LEGO Ideas.

The rules of Ideas prohibits commercial activities of a submission within three years after submission. Deleted or not. The Store was added over 1,5 years ago. I’m planning on publishing free building instructions for the Store in the near future. Since this is not a commercial activity I assume this is not interfering with the LEGO Ideas rules.

Until then my build remains the only one in the world 🙂

Whodunit?

Who has done it in front of the Botanical Garden? May be the Pug of Francois Baguette?

UrGe illegal copy

UrGe has produced my MOC design with free building instruction of the Central Perk Bing Bang Theory modular without my permission. This MOC has been designed from two LEGO Ideas sets, Central Perk (21319) and Big Bang Theory (21302). The illegal copy seems popular on AliExpress, one even used my picture with the MOC on my kitchen table.

UrGe has not asked for permission and did not offer any compensation for using my MOC design. Some even have reviewed this illegal copy to great extent and quoted me on top of the review knowing UrGe stole the design. So they know who is the designer that did not get compensated but still continue reviewing the copy.

Mould King has acquired the rights for this MOC and it will be available soon. So if you are in for non-LEGO sets, it’s better to wait for the Mould King set as Mould King has honored the designer.
